In my home. Approximately 50 people. Lots of food, wine, beer, parental friends and relatives, kids, conversation! (lots and lots), stories, laughter. Twas a good party. They really enjoy each other's company and it was a wonderful inter-generational event.

On intimacy
"...we've taken one kind of intimacy--the type in which our partner accepts and validates us--and convinced ourselves this is what intimacy is per se. Thus, we assume that intimacy hinges on acceptance and validation from our partner. Likewise we've confused "good communication" with being understood the way we want and getting the response we expect. We never consider the kind of intimacy where we validate our disclosures when our partner doesn't....We're driven by something that makes us look like we crave intimacy, but in fact we're after something else: we want someone else to make us feel acceptable and worthwhile."

Passionate Marriage, David Snarch.

Upcoming choral concerts
Hi everyone

I've included a smattering of you in this email list on the off chance you'd
be interested in attending some very good choral concerts which are
upcoming. Katherine's choral organization (Coastal Sound) is hosting its
biannual International Choral Festival for youth. Apparently, it's the only
international choral festival for youth in the lower mainland. They've
attracted children and youth choirs form Czech Republic, California,
Washington, Illinois and Ontario and Quebec. They're looking for as much
support for the series of concerts as possible.

The concert listings are at www.coastalsoundfestival.com and tickets can be
purchased there.

Free 12 pm concerts are here:
June 30, noon: at Burnaby Village Museum w. ticket entrance: two very good
groups from California, Crystal Young Men/Women.
July 2, Lougheed Town Centre
July 2, Burnaby Village Museum
July 3: Burnaby Village Museum
July 3: Lougheed Town Centre: Coastal Sound children's choir and Katherine's
Youth choir.

I'm going to try to go to 2 -3 of the following ticketed concerts:

July 2, 7:30 pm St. Andrew's Wesley: Katherine's choir + 2 choirs from
Montreal
July 3, :30, same place Crystal Young men/Women, Czech Republic
July 4, Closing concert of Massed choirs in Surrey at Chandos Pattison
Auditorum, featuring Crystal Young Men and Czech Republic choir.

random updates
Much downtime last weekend except for.
VSO with KK, for Schubert (nice) and Mahler (rousing! I liked it!)

This week....Kits Beach for dinner and girltalk with Dia
Art Gallery patio for 3 pm drinks and a boss appreciation event from the staff.
Hour and a half walk at Burnaby Lake with my sister in law.
Summer night market in Richmond, with GG and BB. An interesting experience,
which I would repeat with the right people (eg. someone interested in
shopping, since none of us 3 are great shoppers.)
Maybe...take in a street closure or more today?

more catchup
May long weekend in Whistler, staying at my dad's condo because...it's grad weekend and my daughter wanted to experience it, and I didn't want to be very far away. More on that later maybe. Many bemusing events.

Accomplished some organizing.

Computers are fixed and finally back.

Many grad activities this month, with which I'm insanely busy, it seems. Thank goodness I have my computer back with all my stored emails so I can do volunteer stuff effectively.

Off to bed. sweet dreams all.

Work zone ahead, slow to 30 papers per inch.
I have decided to hire a "professional organizer". A woman in my haikomi group weight loss class. To prepare for her magic touch to give me a system that will "work" and a beautiful space, I have gone through in the last week and a half my whole office area and have put out 5 yellow recycle bags of paper, 3/4 of a garbage bag of mostly unrecyclable paper/bits, and 2/3 of another bag of paper for shredding.

I have found two cheques and one settlement proposal for money which I thought I had lost. This will nicely pay for the costs of the professional organizer plus.

I have discovered that I had no idea how many places I stored "like" stuff in one room and in my house.

I have many lists over and over again of the things I want to do to be somewhat more on top of my life and they are long lists, including the list I just recreated. I worry a bit that I still won't make much of a dent in that, but I sense that life is giving me a bit of an opening now.

I have an amazing amount of French materials and even more books, especially self-help, spirituality related. I can't get rid of most of those.

I have piles and piles of photo and album related stuff, some of it digital and most not.

I have lots of wrapping paper and possible gifts for people.

I have one or two good ideas about how to make the paper flow better through here but I await MY p.o's genius.

I have a parquet floor which looks quite nice with nothing on it!

on Susan Boyle II....set up for ...
Interesting this is....these masses could turn on her very quickly of course just bec she's not society-defined beautiful and especially if this is in any way a facade bec. they were set up to adore her and be surprised out of their prejudices. They'll be very happy to know that they were right to start with...that she really is "stuck in the country", for good reason.

Just read that.....she let it slip in an interview that Cowell's group had asked her to come to the show auditions. She could be being set up to succeed (ie. Paul Potts) but if she fails, it will be a "massive" failure and lots of publicity for Britain's Got Talent with lots of personalization against her. I doubt Cowell's group has prepped her for that, given that his main interest is in being #1.

Having recently bounded through a couple of unmoderated forums, I've been reminded about how many people are out there truly trying to be nasty to each other, just for fun.

What's your favourite National Film Board of Canada memory?
Man, I love You Tube. It is soooo gratifying. A search or two...and poof!...instead memories.

This was a favourite of mine, though I don't know if I caught it often or just once. I'm glad to have found it again.

Today, I saw...
...cherry and magnolia blossoms at Burrard Station

....2 guys with large metal hoops, spinning themselves around while holding onto the insides in 3 and 4 point holds (fascinating and beautiful!)

...sunshine, water and snowcapped mountains

...the new trade and convention centre...outside....not yet completely finished. Looking fairly institutional as yet.

Smiling and remembering...last time I went skiing up at Whistler, a teeny tiny field mouse surprised me, crossing the ski slope in front of me, in one big hurry to get undercover and to the end of that great big wide ski slope.

Synergy gets better and better
5 amazing youth choirs. CSMA Youth (daughter's), N. Surrey, Burnaby Central, then from Nelson, BC., and Regina SK. Nelson's Corazon choir really rocks. CSMA Youth rocks. All the choirs rocked. My whole body feels alive and humming. THAT's what a good night of music does. The kids even did an impromptu encore at the end on their own, they had so much fun.

Life is good.

Musical event upcoming: Waters Edge festival. Lots of free stuff too!
This is a 25 hour musical event around Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam this upcoming weekend, much of it free, and part of the Cultural Olympiad. Katherine's choir is singing (by donation) at 2 pm on Saturday and 1 am Sunday. Katherine's former piano teacher, Dawn Pemberton, who is amazing, is singing as part of Vocomotion (ticketed) at 3 pm on Saturday and we'll probably try to go to that too. http://www.watersedgemusic.ca/
